What are you doing about Post-Adoption support? Part 1

It is not uncommon for adoptive families to feel less supported after their adoption has been finalized, especially by professionals.  With national adoption disruption (before adoption is finalized) and dissolution (after adoption is finalized) rates between 10%-25% depending on the type of adoption, age of child when adopted, and many other factors it is a major focus of ICM and other agencies to improve and increase post-adoption resources (like this one!).

In order to help us know what is lacking in services or how they are provided, please leave a comment on this post about what has been helpful or lacking for you.

Also we’d love to hear what you are doing to support yourselves, your children and other adoptive families after the adoption so that other families can learn from what works for you!

In addition to the ICM Adoption Network Blog, ICM is able to provide confidential and professional post-adoption counseling services in your home, church, or at our office.  Support is just a phone call or email away.  Contact Maria Gocke at adopt@icmfamily.org or Nate Himes at icmcounselor@gmail.com.  Or call the ICM office at 217-469-7566.
