Intercountry Adoption Universal Accreditation Act

On Monday, January 14th, President Obama signed the Intercountry Adoption Universal Accreditation Act.

This bill will now require that, in order to provide intercountry adoptive placement services, an agency must be Hague Accredited. Prior to this bill being signed, the practice was that only families adopting from a country that had signed the Hague Treaty had to use Hague Accredited agencies. According to this new law, whether or not you are adopting from a Hague country or not, your placement agency must be Hague Accredited. This will provide greater safety for adoptive parents and adopted children in regards to ethical practices, fees, liability, etc.
