Finding the right professional

How does an adoptive family find the right professional to help their child? There are so many professionals out there; how do you know which one is right for your child? Well, there are many factors to keep in mind. Here are a few questions to ask:

  • Is this professional a Christian?
  • Does this professional accept our insurance?
  • What is this professional’s area of expertise?
  • What is the typical demographic of this professional’s clientele (how experienced are they in working with children)?
  • Does this professional have any personal experience with adoption?
  • Does this professional prefer to work with the child, or the family as a whole?

There are many questions to consider, and hopefully those questions can help you begin to brainstorm regarding what is important for your family in seeking out a professional.  Dr. Karyn Purvis recently addressed this question in a video format. Here is a link to her video:

Please always remember that ICM is here to help your family in any way possible! We know of many professionals and resources, and you are always welcome to call and ask our experienced opinions regarding working with a professional.
