Moving Mountains

Anxiety… Stress… Apprehension… Worry… Restlessness. I think we all know these words too well. As parents, and specifically adoptive parents, these words can oftentimes control and guide our lives. On this Monday morning, I find myself experiencing each one of these feelings… about our trip to Taiwan… about going to court for our adoption… about all of the things I have to do before then… about a 15 hour flight.

The American Institute of Stress states that stress is “a condition or feeling experienced when a person perceives that demands exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilize.”

Well that definition leaves out a very important resource… God. When you boil it down, most things in our life are beyond our ability to overcome and handle alone. In Matthew 17:20-21, Jesus states “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Everything that we stress over is not near as large as moving an entire mountain. Our God is so mighty and magnificent, and we only need look to Him during our times of trouble and worry.

Dear Lord,

I pray that today and everyday you bless each one of our hearts, minds, and souls. That as we go about our day to day tasks, we would look to You, the lover of our souls, to give us strength and endurance. That we would have faith that each attack of anxiety and stress must bow before you as Master. I pray for each of our families, and that you would bless them beyond measure and beyond what they can even fathom. I pray that your peace would be over every heart that reads these words today.

We love You and praise You for who You are!

Amen
