Nutrition and Special Needs

Today I received news from the SPOON Foundation about a new resource they have for adoptive families. If you are not familiar with the SPOON Foundation, they are an organization dedicated to improving the nutrition of orphaned, foster, and adopted children so that they are able to grow and thrive.

The SPOON Foundation has recently added a new resource to their website. This resource provides nutrition tips for children with specific special needs. The special needs for which they have nutritional advice available are:

Cerebral Palsy

Cleft Lip and Palate

Congenital Heart Disease

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

Low Birth Weight

Severe Malnourishment

Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with their website. In addition to the resource regarding special needs nutrition, they also have resources for nutrient deficiencies, education regarding nutrition (specific to adopted children), nutrition for the child’s first year home, transitioning your child’s diet, feeding challenges, diet tips, and (my favorite part) nutritional information according to country your child has been adopted from- including recipes. The link to their website is: http://adoptionnutrition.org/
